How MAT Works in Denver
Do I Need Medical Detox?
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) at Colorado Medication Assisted Recovery isn’t just about taking medication; it’s about creating a complete framework for long-term recovery that blends medical care, therapy, and personalized support.
Whether you’re seeking treatment for opioid use disorder, alcohol dependence, or benzodiazepine withdrawal, MAT at CMAR is designed to support healing at every level: physical, psychological, and behavioral.
- Expert clinical oversight and medication management
- Integrated therapy, case management, and psychiatric care
- Flexible outpatient scheduling for real-life responsibilities
- Covered by most insurance plans and affordable private pay options
We accept most major insurance plans and offer affordable cash-pay options.
MAT Is a Process, Not a Pill
MAT is most effective when it’s part of a structured treatment plan that includes:
What You Can Expect:
- Medical supervision and check-ins
- FDA-approved medications tailored to your substance and health needs
- Therapeutic support for co-occurring conditions and relapse prevention
- Social and peer support to rebuild daily functioning and confidence
At CMAR, we approach MAT as a dynamic process that changes with you. From detox and stabilization to outpatient therapy and long-term recovery, we’ll walk with you every step of the way.
Step 1: Personalized Assessment
Every MAT program at CMAR begins with a comprehensive intake assessment. During this initial phase, our team gathers detailed medical, psychological, and substance use history to determine:
- The type and severity of substance use
- Co-occurring mental health concerns (anxiety, trauma, depression)
- Medical history, allergies, and medication tolerance
- Current living and social situation
- Motivations and goals for recovery
This assessment allows us to build a custom treatment plan with the right medication, dose, and wraparound services.
Step 2: Medication Initiation
After assessment and medical clearance, we begin the medication phase, which varies based on the substance involved:
- Opioids: Medications like Suboxone, Subutex, or Sublocade are used to stabilize brain chemistry, reduce cravings, and block euphoric effects.
- Alcohol: Options like Vivitrol or Antabuse help reduce cravings and prevent relapse.
- Benzodiazepines: Controlled tapers supported by short-term medications for anxiety, sleep, or mood stabilization.
Step 3: Behavioral Therapy + Mental Health Care
Medication alone doesn’t treat the underlying causes of addiction. That’s why CMAR integrates behavioral and mental health care throughout your MAT journey:
- Individual Therapy to explore trauma, anxiety, emotional regulation
- Group Therapy focused on relapse prevention, mindfulness, and communication
- Family Support for improving relationships and repairing trust
- Psychiatric Services to manage co-occurring diagnoses and medication needs
This combination allows you to build insight, resilience, and emotional tools that sustain recovery even after medication ends.
Step 4: Transition to Long-Term Recovery
As your cravings stabilize, therapy deepens, and functioning improves, you’ll work with your care team to adjust your treatment plan. This often includes:
- Reducing medication dosage or tapering off completely
- Stepping down to fewer therapy sessions per week
- Exploring ongoing alumni or support groups
- Transitioning to a lower level of care like OP or virtual sessions

Your healing journey and new life starts now

I started in August 2024 and was guided to IOP, which included three sessions a week. I’ll never forget the first time I walked in—I was welcomed right away. James Jackman was the group therapist that day and made me feel comfortable from day one. He would later become my personal therapist, and I owe a lot to him for helping me through my recovery.
I came in wanting to change my relationship with alcohol, but I ended up working through so much more—my anxiety, childhood trauma, and the reasons behind my substance use. I learned more about myself and grew as a person in ways I never imagined.
After graduating IOP in three months, I decided to continue in OP for another year. Through CMAR, I’ve built a strong sober community and made many close friends. If you’re looking for help, this place is truly amazing.

Clients feel valued not judged —highest respect and recommendation for their services.

Nothing would stand in my way of a drink. My actions revolved around minimizing consequences to decisions that would reap the best benefit of this disorder. This disease manipulates you and as a result, you manipulate everyone around you just to fulfill a falsely created ritual.
After spending another round in rehab, I started an intensive outpatient program at CMAR. I recently graduated and started in their regular outpatient program. I get to see a certified counselor every week in addition to fixed flexible courses. This place saved my life. I don't take that lightly and I'm not exercising my freedom of speech just to say it. I mean it, CMAR's professional staff and programs saved my life.
I just hit the 7 month mark of my sobriety. I'm happy, in every sense of the word, in a way that I haven't been in many years. For anyone out there struggling, please recognize, I know exactly what you're going through. I'm not unique in any way. I just decided that my life is worth living without substances.
I believe that taking your first step to accepting this truth is going to be the hardest. Please consider allowing CMAR to help you ground this decision. It's the most important choice you'll ever make. The road to recovery is not an easy one. The greatest part of all the difficulty is that we're not alone. CMAR develops serious relationships with others through intense attributable work.
Since this is working for me, I have no doubt in my heart that it will work for you. Please take action because it's already too late. For a lot of people, they never got to this realization. I hope to see you soon in one of the classes.
Peace and grace be with you,
Jeremiah White
